WEEK 1 BLOG ACTIVITY – TWITTER

I created my twitter account today and it was an interesting experience.  I learned how to follow other tweeters, change my profile, upload a photo of myself and search for other tweeters.  Searching was pretty simple due to the standard search window found in nearly all windows systems.  The most helpful thing I learned with Twitter today however was the BrowseInterests tab on the WhoToFollow menu because it provided a list of tweeters who were already in a grouping for specific topics I am interested in professionally (Education, Business) and personally (Art & Design)  It allowed me to search items you learned from using Twitter. Please include 2 or 3 sentences about why this item may be helpful to you and our profession.

If you try to use Twitter as a medium for a virtual learning community I am not sure how successful that would be.   On the one hand it would be good for the instantaneous communication that would benefit all learners as well the learners could be physically located anywhere in the world so geography barriers would be eliminated.  The ability to provide content on twitter concerns me though. Where would you put actual content, you would be limited to providing links to learning content (text files, websites, podcasts, audio files and video files, etc.).
